Exploring the history of what has happened to people born with bodies that challenge social norms - including people born conjoined and intersex - and the history of what these and other marginalized people have said about themselves, the speaker will suggest that we are all facing new, exceptionally challenging questions of what it means to be human, what it means to be normal, what it means to live in a democracy, and what it means to turn to doctors and scientist for our social well-being.
