| 11:10 am The Commons Hedges | Public Lecture to Accompany Class Entitled "Early Women, Power, and the Royal Courts"Linda Shenk is Assistant Professor of English at Iowa State University and author of multiple publications on Elizabethan literature. Shenk introduces listeners to Elizabeth's "self-image" as the goddess of wisdom, Minerva, and argues that her learned persona allowed her to do what was unthinkable in the Renaissance. The lecture is sponsored by LACE, Cornell's English Department, Art Department, and Women's Studies. |

| 3:30 pm The Commons Harlan Dining Room | The Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission and Housing DiscriminationMichelle McMurray, a Civil Rights Investigator with the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission, will speak about the recent audits which revealed an extraordinarily high level of racial discrimination in the Cedar Rapids housing market. She will discuss the Commission’s history of involvement in housing issues, the reasons for the housing study, and, based on the results of that study, how the Commission plans to pursue a strategy that will encourage changes in housing practices in Cedar Rapids. |

| 7:30 pm Kimmel Theatre | "A Lie of the Mind" by Sam ShepardWinner of the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Play (1986), "A Lie of the Mind" is the story of two families joined by marriage and torn apart by violence. The play tells the tale of broken promises, forgotten love, and the search for the American Dream. "A Lie of the Mind" runs Thursday April 24th through Sunday April 27th in Kimmel Theatre at 7:30pm Thursday - Saturday and a 2pm matinee on Sunday. Tickets: $8 adults; $5 students and seniors; free for students and staff of Cornell. |
