| All day-Feb 11th | It's More Than Just a Game: African-Americans in Iowa Sports Cole LibrarySince the late nineteenth century, Iowa's African Americans have participated in a variety of sports and contributed in profound ways to Iowa's sporting culture. This exhibit displays just a few of these amazing stories. Tyla Cole, Eastern Iowa Coordinator, African American Museum of Iowa will be present to answer questions from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. each day. As we approach the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth on Feb. 12, 2009, this course explores the questions: How did the 51-year-old get the presidential nomination of the Republican Party? What did he do with the first fifty years of his life? Why do historians rank him as one of our best presidents? This course continues Feb. 16 and 23. Open to adults of all ages. Cost of the four week program is $30. |
