SUMMARY:Chautauqua - Term 2
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Richard Peters, professor emeritus of education.
Even though it seems exciting to study famous battles and their outcomes,
it is even more important to study the issues surrounding troop movement
s and strength, the assignment of officers, the attempts at peace, and th
e making of treaties. Who were the lobbyists? What was the role of newspa
pers, authors, interpreters, state legislators, and activists? What was t
he role of statehood movements? This course will specifically look at th
e diplomacy surrounding Red Cloud and Spotted Tail--two great and competi
ng Lakota warriors, leaders, and politicians. Continues Oct. 15 and 22. C
ost of the four-week program is $36. For more information call 895-4119.
