Join us for this learning and practice group on Fridays at 11:15 - noon in Allee Chapel (except during breaks). Sessions enfold seated and movement-based meditation from diverse Eastern and Western approaches. Includes contemplative wisdom for everyday life. Come for increased calm, compassion, resiliency, stress reduction, and ability to be more skillful with difficult emotions. Led by certified instructor (CQE). 11:30 am-12:30 pmCrossing Cultures: A Performance and Talk by Anna Bineta Diouf and Oleg Timofeyev Orange Carpet
Anna Bineta Diouf, German mezzo-soprano and Oleg Timofeyev, a leading expert on the Russian 7-string guitar, will perform songs and discuss how various cultural influences have helped to shape their musical identities. Sponsored by the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and the Office of Intercultural Life. Ms. Diouf is one of the most promising singers of her generation. After graduating from Musikhochschule Hannover she has been a member of opera studio of Staatsoper Hannover and will be a soloist of the Annaberg Theater from the season 2017/8. As a concert singer her very broad repertoire includes early Renaissance lute songs as well as French mélodies, English, Russian and Scandinavian songs, the unique German Kunstlied of the Romantic period, and works of modern and contemporary composers. Dr. Timofeyev is an American musicologist of Russian origin, specializing in lute and Russian guitar. He has performed and taught widely in Europe and the United States, and has worked for the revival of Russian music played with authentic technique on the 7-string guitar, often in collaboration with other artists. He is co-founder and artistic director of the International Academy for Russian Music, Arts, and Culture, based in Iowa City.
