|Mar 7th||Black Iowa Youth Conference: Kujichagulia TBA|
The Black Iowa Youth Conference: Kujichagulia will host 40 African-American high school students from schools throughout the eastern Iowa area. The students will stay on the Cornell campus from March 8-10 where they will attend workshops for sexual, physical, and mental health, SAT/ACT preparation, and the college application process. The purpose of the conference is to empower African-American youth by encouraging them to pursue higher education, helping them to transition into their next grade level, and instilling in them a sense of pride in their culture. This will be an opportunity for the students to network with Cornell professors and Black professionals from Iowa. Also the students will interact with Cornell students and will hear personal testimonies from them about their experiences in high school and the do’s and don’ts for their freshman year in college.
