|All day||Block 2 begins|
|9:00 am-12:00 pm||Chautauqua - Term 2 Thomas Commons|
Presented by Richard Peters, professor emeritus of education. Though it may seem exciting to study famous battles and their outcomes, it is more important to study the issues surrounding troop movements and strength, assignment of officers, attempts at peace, and treaty making. Who were the lobbyists? What was the role of newspapers, authors, interpreters, state legislators, and activists? What was the role of statehood movements? This course will specifically look at the diplomacy surrounding Red Cloud and Spotted Tail--two great and competing Lakota warriors, leaders, and politicians. Continues Oct. 8, 15, and 22. Cost of the four-week program is $36. For more information call 895-4119.
