Cornell College will confer degrees on more than 250 students. Theatre Professor Jim VanValen will give the faculty address and Will Dineen will give the student address. The commencement ceremony will be held outdoors in the quad bordered by the Norton Geology Center and South and College halls. If severe weather is expected, Commencement will be held in the Small Multi-Sport Center. Seniors will still be expected to line up for the ceremony at 9 a.m., but line-up will occur in the basketball gym in the Sport Center. Notification of the venue change will occur by 7:30 a.m. Saturday to all seniors, faculty and staff via e-mail, the RAM Alert system, and on the college's homepage. If outdoors, umbrellas will not be allowed in the seating area. Ponchos will be provided in the event of rain. For more information, visit the Commencement website.

The third annual Mount Vernon Chocolate Stroll will take place Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free music and chocolate event invites guests to stroll down Mount Vernon's historic First Street where participating businesses and chocolate vendors, located inside participating businesses, will offer chocolate and chocolate products for sample and sale. Music this year will begin at 10 a.m. at the First Street Community Center (221 First St. NE, Mount Vernon). Music highlights will include the Eastern Iowa Brass Band at 11 a.m.; and, at 2 p.m., the Eddie Piccard Jazz Quartet will perform at the Memorial Park Gazebo (311 First St. NW).
