"The Boondocks" discussion

Event Detail
Date: Tuesday, January 22nd
Time: 6:30 pm

Dr. Daniel "DJ" Johnson, assistant principal at Dubuque Senior High School, will lead an in-depth discussion on the "The Boondocks." This interactive lecture/workshop aims to engage participants in an examination of the critically acclaimed animated series that details the experiences of Huey and Riley Freeman, two African American male youths who have moved to a predominantly white suburb. The show comically addresses issues of race relations, politics and the African American experience. The presenter will engage the audience to examine what, if any, is the deeper message amidst the laughter. Johnson earned a bachelor of science degree in social sciences from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a master of education degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and a doctorate of educational leadership from Edgewood College. He has conducted training for the Dubuque Police Department, Dubuque County Sherriff's Department, Dubuque Community Schools, several colleges and universities, and he is an original member of the City of Dubuque's Intercultural Competency Training Team.
