Islam book discussion & tea

Event Detail
Date: Monday, March 28th
Time: 3:15 pm-4:30 pm

Read, learn, and discuss Ramadan Tariq's "Western Islam and The Future of Islam" over tea and Nan Khatai Pakistani/Indian cookies in the Paul Scott Alumni Center. For 30-40 pages of selected reading, email the chaplain at cquehl-engel. Unlike media focus on radical Islam, this book, which was recommended by Imam Hassan when speaking at Cornell last autumn and December, addresses ways Muslims are living in harmony with both their faith and Western societies. It also addresses topics like inter-faith relations. We will also touch on the January 2016 Executive Summary of the Marrakesh Declaration on the Rights of Religious Minorities in Predominantly Muslim Majority Communities sent out by The World Parliament of Religions (available via internet). Participants are welcome to join in on further learning at the Cedar Rapids Islamic Center with other Cornellians Friday, April 1 (for more info and to rsvp, email chaplain at cquehl-engel). ~Sponsored by The Social Justice Initiative (Office of Civic Engagement, Intercultural Life, and Chaplain & Spiritual Life).
