HAIG talk: "Crafting a Definition: Feminist Art"

Event Detail
Date: Thursday, April 21st
Time: 11:00 am-12:00 pm
Description:

Christina Penn-Goetsch, professor of art history and gender, sexuality, and women's studies presents "Crafting a Definition: Feminist Art." Cornell College is relatively unique in offering a course titled "Feminist Art" as opposed to the more generic course with a title similar to "Women, Art, and Culture." This may, in part, be a reflection of the political associations with the "F-Word." Although scholars of gender, women's and sexuality studies often mention the existence of feminisms in defense of assumptions about how feminism is defined, Penn-Goetsch will discuss how the meaning of feminist art has both transformed since the 1970s and come to embrace a more transnational focus with permeable boundaries.
