Brian Nowak-Thompson will share an overview of his sabbatical project, which focused on characterizing soil organic carbon and nitrogen pools and how they are affected by cover crops. He will give an overview of what makes soil a compelling system to study, outline attempts to develop an experimental system, and describe ways in which this project has been extended into the classroom.

Kevin "BF" Burt is a blues musician born and raised in Waterloo. Burt's roots started in the church choir, and several years later Burt joined other talented musicians to form their own band. Known as Kevin Burt and The Blues Instigators, they have toured the Midwest for more than 15 years, sharing their love of blues. See Burt's facebook webpage for more information.
