Cornell will be hosting the POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) Conference in Russell Science Center October 17-19.
8:00 amLocal Service Trip Cedar Rapids
During second block break (Oct. 17-19), there is an environmental-themed local Alternative Break trip! Participants will be going the Indian Creek Nature Center to volunteer. Tasks include removing invasive species and picking up trash. Participants will meet weekly during 2nd block, complete service, and get to experience Cedar Rapids. Release tension, heaviness, or sorrow held around the heart center and elsewhere in body, mind, and spirit. This breath and energy centered class will help sooth, calm, and free burdens held in the body. Open to all skill levels. During this session for students, participants will 1.Learn about potential benefits of essential oils for relaxation and/or mindfulness/meditation; 2.Experience some oils that can be incorporated into a relaxation/meditation practice; 3. Make an aromatherapy inhaler; 4.Engage in a brief mindfulness meditation using one’s personal blend This session is brought to all students by the Cornell Well-being Network as part of the Day of Well-being Event on Thursday of 2nd block break, October 17th. 11:15 am-4:00 pmLABYRINTH Walking Meditation - self-guided Hall-Perrine Room of Thomas Commons
For over 2,000 years, labyrinths have been used by different cultures and faiths (including on floors of medieval churches) for spiritual insight, healing, and prayer. Entering the serpentine path of a labyrinth, you walk slowly while quieting your mind and focusing on a spiritual question, prayer, or burden you would like to hand over. If you would like to receiving a silent blessing, energy clearing, and anointing, arrive between 12 & 1pm. Questions? 12:00 pm-1:00 pmRELEASE & RENEW: Labyrinth Walking Meditation with Blessing & Energy Clearing Hall-Perrine Room of Thomas Commons
Receive a singing bowl blessing and energy clearing from head to foot before entering this age-old walking meditation labyrinth experience. Option of writing a burden--or a question or prayer--on a slip of paper, then releasing to be dissolved in water when reaching the center of the labyrinth. The experience ends with anointing upon the brow by the chaplain for healing and renewal. This session is brought to all students, faculty, and staff by the Cornell Well-being Network as part of the Day of Well-being Event on Thursday, October 17th during block break.

It’s time again to gather with your friends and neighbors to hear about great books and enjoy a free lunch at the Fall Community Book Talk on Thursday, October 17, at noon. Area community members will share their favorite reads so you can start your list of cold weather books. Hills Bank and Cole Library host the event, which includes a sack lunch and door prizes to be given away. Did you know...studies suggest doing puzzles can lead to longer life expectancy, decreased stress, a better quality of life, and reduced chance or memory loss? Stop by the OC to relax and work on a puzzle. Bring a friend! There will be plenty of tea, cider, and puzzles pieces to go around. This event is for students. Bullet journaling is a method of the organization using just a notebook and a pen! It can seem a bit overwhelming if you are looking at examples on Instagram, but a bullet journal does not need to be elaborate to be effective (and fun!). Students can join Brooke from the library in this workshop to get started on a bullet journal experience - try out different pens, see different notebook options (both expensive and inexpensive) to see what "feels right" for you! If you are an experienced bullet journaler, join us for relaxing planning time together during block break! An event for students -- have you ever wanted to use the Fitness Room in Thomas Commons but were too nervous to set foot inside? Stop by the Fitness Room for a tour of the facility, a brief demonstrations of the machines, and a chance to try out the equipment on your own. Block break is a great time to start working on those health goals! Student Lydia Lines will be your tour guide and peer instructor. 2:00 pm-4:00 pmEco-Art Therapy Workshop Hall-Perrine Room of Thomas Commons
In this workshop for students, you will learn the fundamentals of traditional Art Therapy and nature-based Art Therapy to engage your creative process and cultivate a deeper connection with your surroundings and environment. Participants will meet for a brief introduction before going outside to gather materials for their artwork. Gathered materials will be brought back to Hall-Perrine East and used to create unique and works of art. Participants should expect to be outside for about a half-hour and bring appropriate attire.
