Speaker is Puttipong Pongtanapaisan, from the University of Iowa. A 3-manifold is an object that is locally indistinguishable from 3-dimensional Euclidean space. This talk will develop some intuition about some possibilities for the shape of the universe. Examples will be given of 3-manifolds that are different from the 3-dimensional Euclidean space, along with ways to study such spaces, visualize them, and distinguish one such space from another.

The campus community is invited to meet a candidate for the tenure-track, assistant professor position in the Department of Philosophy. The candidate will give a presentation titled "Our Humanity, Our Non-Animality: Dehumanization and the Logic of Genocide" from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4th. The presentation will be followed by a reception in Moosehead Lounge.
