|3:15 pm-4:15 pm||Dynamic Ocean Management:A Novel Approach to Interactions between People &d Oceanic Pelagic Organism West Science|
Dr. Larry Crowder is the Edward F. Ricketts Provostial Professor of Marine Ecology and Conservation at Hopkins Marine Station and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, both part of Stanford University. Dr. Crowder investigates emerging issues in interdisciplinary science with a focus on marine conservation. Solving problems in the real world requires excellent science (including natural and social sciences) coupled with an understanding of the role of formal and informal governance in policymaking. Recently, the research conducted in his lab revolves around coupled social-ecological systems. His interest in bycatch reduction has led him in two directions—studying small-scale fisheries and dynamic ocean management.

|7:00 pm-8:15 pm||Navigating Our Way to Solutions for Marine Conservation Thomas Commons|
Dr. Larry Crowder is the Edward F. Ricketts Provostial Professor of Marine Ecology and Conservation at Hopkins Marine Station and Senior Fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, both part of Stanford University. He is also Affiliated Faculty at Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions. Dr. Crowder's research centers on predation and food web interactions, mechanisms underlying recruitment variation in fishes, population and food web modeling in conservation biology, and interdisciplinary approaches to marine conservation. He has studied food web processes in both freshwater and marine ecosystems, and has used observational, experimental, and modeling approaches to understand these interactions in an effort to improve management. He was principal investigator for a number of large interdisciplinary research projects. His recent research has focused on marine conservation, including research on bycatch, spatial ecological analysis, nutrients and low oxygen, sustainable seafood, ecosystem-based management, marine spatial planning, and governance.
|7:00 pm-8:00 pm||PodClub Cole Library|
This month, PodClub is listening to The Memory Palace.
The Memory Palace is a storytelling podcast about the past. Hosted by Nate DiMeo, it was named the finalist for a Peabody Award in 2016. DiMeo was the Artist in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for 2016-2017, during which time he produced eight stories inspired by the Met and its collection. PodClub members should listen to all 8 episodes from DiMeo’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Residency + 2 episodes of your choosing.
