Constitution Day is today, Sept. 17. The late Sen. Robert C. Byrd, Congress’ unofficial constitutional scholar, believed that students lack significant knowledge regarding the U.S. Constitution. In 2004 he offered legislation to increase students’ knowledge about the Constitution, requiring all educational institutions that receive federal funds implement educational programs relating to the Constitution on Sept. 17 each year. Claude Howard '97, former police officer and now director of security and environmental safety at Mercy Medical Center/ Mercy Service Corporation in Cedar Rapids, will deliver Cornell's Opening Convocation in the first half-hour of "Power Hour" at noon on Thursday, Sept. 17. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to listen to the convocation via Facebook Live [https://www.facebook.com/CornellCollegeInterculturalLife]. The Office of Intercultural Life's weekly "Power Hour" discussion will continue following the Convocation address until 1 p.m.
