Title: X-Rays and Archaeology: Tracing the Origin of Mill Creek Pottery Using Chemistry
Description: The chemical composition of fragments of pottery can help determine whether or not the fragments were produced from a common clay source. Using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, we studied a set of pottery fragments from the Mill Creek culture in western Iowa that date to 1100-1250 AD. Working with archaeologists at the Office of the State Archaeologist of the University of Iowa, we can combine chemical and archaeological information to better understand the origin of the pottery fragments and the extent of trade between the Mill Creek people and other cultures.

Calling all self-identifying females:
Join the global event to show support for our Muslim sisters around the world who choose to wear head cover by wearing modest clothing and a head scarf (hijab) for the day. World Hijab Day gives an opportunity to citizens unfamiliar with the Islamic faith to open up dialogues with their Muslim neighbors, co-workers, and friends. WHD focuses on fighting bigotry, discrimination, and prejudice against Muslim women. This is most crucial in these times when too many Muslim women are being targeted and harassed verbally and physically. There will be an educational booth in the Thomas Commons during lunch. All are also invited to join the discussion in Allee chapel at 3:15 p.m. For more information and to RSVP search for the Facebook event "WORLD HIJAB DAY AT CORNELL COLLEGE."
